What are Dual-Sport Motorcycles?

Dual Sport motorcycles are also branded with names like ‘On-off road bike’ and Dualie. These bikes are designed in a way that they can be used both on and off road. These are street legal motorcycles and are quite popular among youngsters. Since such bikes comes accommodated with instruments like a horn, license plate, mirrors, speedometer, muffler and lights, these can thus be licensed. Overall there are two broad genera in which dual-sport motorcycles can be classified into- Adventure bikes and Enduro.

If classification is based on the basis of the weight of the dual sport bike then they can be distinguished into 3 types:

• Heavyweight
• Middleweight
• Lightweight

A heavyweight dual sport bike weighs over 160kgs. These bikes are specially manufactured for riders who travel long distances on their bikes. These are also called as adventure bikes and come attached with tiers that works perfectly on a pavement.

A middleweight dual sport bike weighs anywhere between 140kgs and 160kgs. These bikes are not recommended for traveling longer distances. The tiers of such a bike offer smooth functioning on home pavements and dirt roads.

A lightweight dual sport bike weighs around 110kgs and has high fenders. They have long traveling suspension and special tires known as ‘Knobbies’. Such tiers are aggressive for dirt orientations. These bikes are more adjacent to wholesome dirt bikes.
